It was prevalent in India before the advent of the Buddha, but it was the Buddha who explained and formulated this doctrine in its complete form. Karma states that the effects of all deeds create past, present, and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain and joy it brings to him/her and others. Karma extends through one's present life and all past and future lives as well.
